Frances Treviño author's photo

Frances Marie Treviño is the chair of the English department at Thomas Jefferson High School in San Antonio, Texas, home of the oldest high school literary magazine in the state. She is also a writing instructor at The University of the Incarnate Word. Her publications include A Certain Attitude: Poems By Seven Texas Women and a chapbook, Mama & Other Tragedies (both Pecan Grove Press). The Laughter of Doves is a recipient of the 2000 Premio Poesia Tejana.

Frances Treviño was first published by Pecan Grove Press in 1999 in a chapbook, Mama and Other Tragedies. That same year, she was a fellow for the National Endowment for the Humanities for integrating U.S. Latino Literature in the secondary classroom. She is the recipient of the 2000 Premio Poesía Tejana Award for The Laughter of Doves, which was published through Wings Press. In 2001 she received a grant from the Alfredo Cisneros del Moral Foundation. From 1999-2002, she was a member of "Women of Ill-Repute: Refute!", a performance group that deconstructed issues of culture and identity. She currently teaches British Literature for the San Antonio Independent School District
